Interviewer: How did you first take up playing piano?

Warren Morgan: I started playing the piano when I was eight years old after my mother enrolled me in a convent in WA. My mother and grandfather played the piano, and it seemed like a good educational move. I was interested in playing the piano and had been showing interest for a while. The first thing I ever played on piano was ‘Twelfth Street Rag,’ which excited me. However, I was quite mischievous at that age and did some silly things like scratching the piano stool and pouring perfume on the piano.

Interviewer: When did you start thinking about playing professionally with a band?

Warren Morgan: Playing in bands became serious during my teenage years. I joined a group called Beat ‘n’ Tracks, and we started rocking around Perth. Later, I played with various bands and trios, performing in clubs, wedding receptions, and football windups. Eventually, I joined the Aztecs, had some success, and then formed Pilgrimage with Phil Manning. I went solo for a while, and now I’m back with the Aztecs again.

Interviewer: How did you feel about rejoining the Aztecs?

Warren Morgan: It was unexpected, but I’m happy about it now. It feels like I’ve done my apprenticeship, and I have a better understanding of what music is all about. I believe I can contribute to the band’s creativity and help Billy, who has been out front all the time. I look forward to exploring new musical possibilities with the Aztecs.

Interviewer: Do you have any plans to use different instruments or sounds in the band?

Warren Morgan: Yes, I’m interested in experimenting with new instruments like the Mellotron or other sophisticated ones. I have an idea for an instrument that can reproduce natural sounds through tapes and a keyboard, but it’s not invented yet. I’m also keen on finding better ways to amplify the grand piano for the high-intensity rock ‘n roll environment.

Interviewer: How do you see the future of music?

Warren Morgan: I believe electronic aspects of music will continue to evolve, and I’m excited about new developments. As a musician, I always look forward to exploring new creative possibilities in music.
